Shouldn’t the truth be told? That the US President, Trump halting of DEI programs in government agencies is yet one of the biggest threat to Human Rights, the fight for social justice, social change, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and the fight for Anti-racism … Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), initiatives have always been a driving force in increasing minority participation and inclusion in the workforce and fostering awareness of and education on discrimination. Immediately after taking office, the Trump administration sent a directive to thousands of federal employees, warning of “adverse consequences” of any failure to adhere to new directives or to report any hidden DEI efforts or defiance of orders to purge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from their agencies. – New York Times: An executive order given to government agencies but no doubt rapidly having ripple effects on private sectors, with big companies immediately scaling back their DEI initiatives and training! Simply put, by rescinding policies designed to promote equal employment opportunities, the government risks perpetuating discrimination and widening existing disparities. Sadly, these actions represent a significant regression in the fight for workplace equality, Diversity and Inclusion… All the work that has been put in! The very thing that has been fought for, for decades. The very thing that Dr Martin Luther King Junior was killed for and many others… The American Civil Liberties Union have argued that these executive orders are a deliberate attempt to undo progress on diversity and inclusion, creating new barriers to opportunity. The DEI rollback not only undermines decades of progress but also signals a troubling disregard for fundamental human rights and social justice. Folks, all said and done, these are my questions:
❓What does this mean for the future of equality, for marginalised communities in the workforce and in society? ❓Can justice and fairness exist in a system that ignores systemic inequities? ❓What message does this send about commitment to human rights and equal opportunity? ❓Who will rise up to uphold the core values that define our society? ❓Who will advocate for policies that uphold the principles of equality and justice for all, regardless? ❓Who will stand up regardless?
