1. To familiarise with the Equality Act 2010 Protected Characteristics, main concepts, terminology and practical application.
2. To support the professional role of Social Work, Social Care, Foster Care, Practice Education and other people-facing professionals around emotional intelligence and cultural competence.
3.To introduce the Diversity Acrostic Poem – A reflective model for working with diversity and developing cultural sensitivity.
4. To reflect on how to incorporate knowledge into day-to-day practice with clients and vulnerable service users, children, young people, and families.
• Participants will learn how to apply the Equality Act 2020 Protected Characteristics in their practice and ways in which they can overcome barriers to working positively with diverse service users and stakeholders.
• Participants will gain knowledge of relevant cultural competence tools and resources and how to apply in their day-to-day practice.
• Participants will gain knowledge of social work models and practice tools which will equip them with confidence and skills around anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive interventions.
• Participants will be able to reflect on the discussion points to learn more about themselves, their perception and worldview including how this might influence their practice.
